Cumberland County is located in central Virginia with an estimated population of 9,800 people. Cumberland is only 40 miles west of the state capitol of Richmond. Situated in the Piedmont region, Cumberland has 135,560 acres of woodland. One of the last battles of the Civil War was fought at the historic "High Bridge," which spans from Cumberland into nearby counties. Cumberland offers the perfect blend of a peaceful rural setting with easy accessibility to Virginia's nearby metropolitan areas.    

 

Mission Statement:

To economically enhance, provide financing of projects whenever appropriate, and diversify the overall development of Cumberland County by growing the tax base and providing for an objective return on investment, above average employment opportunities, and an improved quality of life for the citizens of Cumberland County while maintaining the very highest of integrity and support for businesses and industry that will develop beneficial long-term customer relations.

 

Who We Are:

The Cumberland Industrial Development Authority (IDA) was established in 1994 by the County of Cumberland. The goal of the Cumberland IDA is to institute new businesses in the county and to help them progress successfully.

About Us

The purpose of the IDA is to acquire, own, lease and dispose of properties to the end that this Authority may be able to promote industry and develop trade by including manufacturing, industrial, government, and commercial enterprises to locate in or remain either in the Couty of Cumberland or anywhere in this Commonwealth, and to further the use of agricultural products either of the County of Cumberland, or any contiguous area, and the natural resources thereof, and to exercise all powers that may be necessary to benefit the inhabitants of the Commonwealth of Virginia, for the increase of their commerce, and for the promotion of their safety, health, welfare, convenience and prosperity, the foregoing purposes, and the powers exercised under the applicable law.

Riverside Industrial Park

The Riverside Industrial Park was a joint project between the Town of Farmville and the County of Cumberland. The Riverside Industrial Park was established in the spring of 1995 and is located on Plank Road in Cumberland County. Today, the Riverside Industrial Park is host to on-site businesses including Gemini Inc., and a Green Front Furniture Company warehouse. Gemini Inc. is a sign manufacturing company that is fast growing and houses 30 positions. Green Front Furniture Company is a local business in Farmville that is widely known for its home furnishings. The Green Front Furniture Company warehouse located in Riverside Industrial Park employs approximately 5 persons.

 

       
           

Future Projects...

The Cumberland County Industrial Development Authority is actively working with new businesses about the opportunities for locating in the county.
