Overview
State Code § 15.2-2308 requires that every locality that has enacted a zoning ordinance, shall establish a Board of Zoning Appeals. An appointment to the Board of Zoning Appeals must come by a recommendation from the Board of Supervisors to the Circuit Court Judge, who makes the appointment. Appointed members of the Board of Zoning Appeals serve five-year terms, and may be reappointed to succeed themselves. The duties of the Board of Zoning Appeals include, but are not limited to hearing applications for a variance, and appeals of decisions by the Zoning Administrator.
Meetings
When a meeting of the Board of Zoning Appeals is called, they are generally held on the second Wednesday of the month at 6:00 p.m., in the Circuit Courtroom of the Cumberland Courthouse. All meetings are open to the public.
