Cumberland VA – Cumberland County has received a Next Generation NG911 Additional Funding Grant totaling $150,000.  The grant funds originate from the Public Safety Answering Points (PSAP) Grant program administered by the Virginia 9-1-1 Services Board through the Virginia Department of Emergency Management.

Presently, the Commonwealth of Virginia is implementing Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) statewide as the current analog network that provides 9-1-1 call delivery to Virginia PSAPs is going away.

Cumberland County’s grant application and award included funding for upgrades to its current 911 Dispatch Center.  The grant funded improvements will be completed as the County implements its new radio system and migrates to the Virginia State Police STARS radio system.

The NG 911 grant comes on the heels of several other grant awards including a previously awarded RSAF grant for a new ambulance, Emergency Medical Dispatch grant, a VDEM Performance Grant, VDEM Radiological Grant, and Assistance to Localities Funding for volunteer fire departments.

For the current calendar year, Cumberland County has been awarded grant funding and/or received donations totaling $675,935.34 for public safety improvement efforts.
